Charitable objectives
Our charitable aims
As a charity, our work is guided by clear aims: supporting people, protecting the environment and strengthening communities across Doncaster and South Yorkshire.
Eight aims, one purpose
These are the objects we are registered to pursue as a charity. Each one describes work we do every week, not an aspiration we hold in reserve.

The relief of poverty
Doncaster carries high levels of deprivation, and many families cannot afford basic household goods without turning to high-cost credit. Our shops offer quality furniture and essentials at genuinely affordable prices. We do not exploit the people who come to us. We exist as a fair alternative to the lenders who do.
Relief of unemployment
Long-term unemployment takes a toll financially, physically and psychologically, and returning to work after a long gap is harder than many realise. We provide volunteering, work placements and paid roles for people who face barriers to the labour market, helping them rebuild the routines, skills and confidence that work requires.
Advancement of education and training
We offer practical, work-based learning for people who may not thrive in a traditional classroom. The skills we develop in retail, logistics, furniture remanufacture and customer service are real, transferable and valued by employers. Where it fits, we support people towards nationally recognised qualifications, and always towards a genuine reference.
Enhancing our partners' capabilities
We work with Doncaster Council, NHS South Yorkshire, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and many voluntary-sector organisations. Where we can, we share what we have learned about delivering employment support effectively in a community setting, so the whole network gets stronger.

Environmental projects and furniture reuse
We divert hundreds of tonnes of reusable furniture and household goods from landfill each year, collecting directly from households across the borough. We also work with national retailers to remanufacture damaged goods that would otherwise be wasted, keeping valuable materials in productive use.
Public education on reuse and recycling
Through our shops, our Expressions studio, school visits and community partnerships, we make the practical and environmental case for reuse. We want people to see that second-hand is not second best, and that choosing reuse over new is one of the simplest ways a household can cut its environmental impact.
Training and employment through workspace
We provide the workspace, equipment and structured environment that make training and employment possible: the warehouse, the shops and the studio. Without that physical infrastructure, none of the employment and training work we do would be possible.
Housing support for those in need
We offer a confidential, discreet assisted-relocation service for vulnerable individuals and families, including those fleeing crisis. We also supply furniture and household goods to people setting up a new home, often after homelessness, domestic abuse or other significant disruption.
