Doncaster Refurnish began with a simple ambition: to stop good, usable furniture ending up as waste. More than twenty years on, that idea still shapes everything we do.

Why we exist

Where it started

We opened in Doncaster to prevent perfectly usable furniture from being thrown away, and to put those resources to work for local people instead. By collecting, restoring and redistributing furniture and household goods, we help households afford the essentials of a comfortable home while keeping valuable materials in use for longer. It is a straightforward idea with a lasting effect: reducing waste, easing pressure on family budgets, and giving good furniture a second life across the borough.

In the workshop

Restored, not discarded

Every item that reaches our shop floor has been checked, cleaned and, where needed, repaired by our team. Sofas are safety-checked, electricals are tested, and pieces that need a little care are brought back to their best in our workshop. Nothing is listed until it is genuinely ready for someone's home. This quiet, skilled work is what lets us promise quality alongside affordability, and what turns a donated item destined for landfill into something a family is glad to own.

Rooted in Doncaster

We are part of the communities we serve. Our shops in Carcroft and Dunscroft, our warehouse and our delivery vans are familiar sights across the borough, and much of our team lives locally. We collect directly from households, work alongside councils, housing providers and charities, and reinvest what we earn back into the area. Being rooted here means we understand what local people need, and it means the difference our work makes stays close to home.

Refurnish opens
The charity is founded in Doncaster to keep usable furniture out of landfill and get it to the households that need it.
2010
Growing across the borough
Shops, warehousing and a delivery fleet expand our reach so more households can access affordable, quality furniture.
2016
Training and placements
Structured volunteering, work placements and supported roles become a core part of what we offer alongside reuse.
2021
Community services deepen
Assisted relocation, crisis support and our Expressions studio broaden the ways we support people facing hardship.
