Moral Fibre
Supporting rehabilitation through skills and responsibility
The Refurnish Moral Fibre programme has been developed in collaboration with HMP Hatfield to give individuals preparing to return to the community meaningful training and rehabilitation opportunities through real, practical work.

A structured environment for personal development
The programme gives participants a supportive, structured environment in which to build both practical ability and the personal values that support long-term progress. Participants are encouraged to demonstrate:
Responsibility & accountability
Taking ownership of tasks and outcomes, and being accountable for the standard of your own work.
Respect
Respect for others and for the working environment, building positive working relationships.
Commitment
Commitment to completing tasks to a high standard, seeing every job through properly.
Teamwork
Teamwork and cooperation, working well alongside others toward a shared goal.
Reliability
Reliability and consistency: turning up and following through, day after day.
Practical training and work experience
Participants take part in practical activities that contribute directly to the daily operations of Doncaster Refurnish, gaining real workplace experience as they learn.
Furniture repair & restoration
Hands-on repair work on real donated furniture, from structural fixes to finishing touches.
Preparation & quality checking
Assessing donated items and preparing them to the standard needed for resale.
Basic upholstery & refurbishment
An introduction to upholstery and refurbishment techniques used across the workshop.
Warehouse operations & stock handling
Sorting, storing and moving stock safely as part of the wider warehouse team.
Safe handling & logistics
Learning safe lifting, handling and logistics practice used throughout the charity.
Preparing furniture for resale
Getting restored pieces ready for reuse: cleaned, checked and shop-floor ready.
Preparing for life beyond custody
A key aim of the programme is to help individuals prepare for successful resettlement after their time at HMP Hatfield. Structured training and meaningful work experience help participants develop the practical vocational skills, communication and teamwork abilities, confidence and self-discipline, and positive working routines that support a more successful transition back into the community.

Creating community value
The work carried out through the programme benefits everyone involved. Furniture restored through Moral Fibre is returned to circulation, helping ensure affordable household goods stay available to local residents, combining practical rehabilitation with environmental responsibility and community service.
