Tom Handley - Data Input Clerk/Admin
In his own word below, Tom describes his Refurnish experience.
Working for Refurnish has been a life changing experience. I had been looking for work for ages but with no luck. My disability being the main factor. People, employers just could not see past it.
I hate being labelled disabled, I have never let my physical situation get in the way. I don't see it as an issue. I can do virtually everything anyone else can do and what is more I can do it well.
I came to Refurnish through a training work placement that was being run by Morthyn. I enjoyed the work so much that after my placement had finished I volunteered and stayed on. I am now employed full time as a Data Input/Admin Assistant.
My work is very varied, it involves; data inputting, stock control, administration and quality assurance and occasionally I get out to attend community events as well.
Working gives people personal pride. It inspires them to achieve. Since working at Refurnish I have re-found myself. I feel valued as a person and I feel proud that through my work I contribute to society.
I have learnt new skills which have broadened my horizons and I have made lots of new friends.
